What Does the Bible Say About Jesus?

In the beginning God specially created man to be in His image and after His likeness. God’s plan was to fill the earth with His glory (Numbers 14:21). However, man was also given freewill – the ability to decide for Himself. And man, when given the option of obeying God or obeying his own lusts, chose the latter. Although Adam and Eve deserved to die right then, God had mercy on them and another living creature was killed to cover them. Even as they were condemned to grow old and die, God promised them that one day one of the woman’s seed would conquer sin. Later on God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that through them all the nations of the earth would be blessed. During the time of the Kingdom of Israel, the law given by God established that when a man or woman sinned, they could be reconciled again to God by the sacrifice of an animal – one without blemish and perfect in every way. They would put their hand on it’s head as it was killed in acknowledgment that it should have been them.

All of this pointed forward to the day of Jesus Christ. He was born of a woman when the time was right. He grew up knowing he was the Son of God and had a special purpose in life. He lived his life in perfect obedience to God, his Father, helped by the power of God but still as a man dealing with the flesh. He showed mankind what it meant to be a reflection of God’s glory so that he could say – “he who has seen me has seen the Father”. He died, faithful to the end, a perfect sacrifice, yet knowing the weakness of the flesh so that he truly conquered sin and provided a way for mankind to come and have their sins forgiven and give glory to God.

Here are some of the things the Bible says about Jesus.

The seed who would crush the serpents head
“From now on you and the woman will be enemies, as will your offspring and hers. You will strike his heel, but he will crush your head.” (Genesis 3:15)

The seed who would be a blessing to all nations
“and your offspring will be a blessing to all the nations of the earth — all because you have obeyed me.” (Genesis 22:18)

The son who would reign on David’s throne forever
“For when you die, I will put one of your sons upon your throne and I will make his kingdom strong. He is the one who will build me a temple. And I will continue his kingdom into eternity.” (2 Samuel 7:12,13)

Son of Abraham and David
“These are the ancestors of Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David and of Abraham…” (Matthew 1:1)

Son of God
“And a voice from heaven said, This is my beloved Son, and I am wonderfully pleased with him.” (Matthew 3:17)

Born of a woman
“But when the right time came, the time God decided on, he sent his Son, born of a woman, born as a Jew…” (Galatians 4:4)

Tempted like we are, but without sin
“But Jesus the Son of God is our great High Priest who has gone to heaven itself to help us; therefore let us never stop trusting him. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, since he had the same temptations we do, though he never once gave way to them and sinned.” (Hebrews 4:14,15)

Manifested the Father
“Jesus replied, ‘Don’t you even yet know who I am, Philip, even after all this time I have been with you? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking to see him?” (John 14:9)

Head of the body
“He is the Head of the body made up of his people – that is, his Church – which he began; and he is the Leader of all those who rise from the dead, so that he is first in everything” (Colossians 1:18)

Mediator between God and men
“That God is on one side and all the people on the other side, and Christ Jesus, himself man, is between them to bring them together, by giving his life for all mankind.” (1 Timothy 2:5,6)
