I believe Jesus will return
There are many reasons I believe that Jesus will be on earth again. He will come in the future to the earth, and reign over the whole world as king. It is my personal faith that this will occur sooner rather than later.
Jesus himself said – Revelation 22:12 – “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.”
Angels said of him at the time he ascended into heaven – Acts 1:11 – “Men of Galilee, they said, why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
God promised an eternal kingdom to one of the descendants of King David of Israel – 2 Samuel 7:12 – “When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you. He will come form your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.”
I am confident that Jesus will return because this world is in a troubled mess in all sorts of ways, and Jesus’ reign on earth will fix all these problems. The kingdom of Christ on earth will include a big fix up operation. Jesus himself said – Luke 21:26 – “Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
When Jesus returns, those ready and waiting for him will have plenty of things to do when his kingdom is established. They will be teaching others and cleaning the world of all its pollution – Revelation 5:10 – “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”
It is prophesied that Jesus will bring joy throughout the whole world – Psalm 72:4-8 – “He will defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; he will crush the oppressor. He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth. In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more. He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.”
Immediately prior to the establishment of the kingdom of Jesus, many dead people will be raised, and on being found worthy, will receive eternal life. That is a time when all of their diseases will be healed, and they will die no more. As mentioned, there will be many things to do. The life we have now is a training period for that time. Although Jesus will reign from Jerusalem, that city and the whole of the land of Israel will be remarkably changed. An illustration of this is found in Jeremiah 3:17 – “ At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the Lord, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honour the name of the Lord. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.”
There is a beautiful picture of this time that is word-painted for us in the prophecy of Isaiah 11:6-9 – “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child will put his hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
