Five ways the Bible can make you more discerning!
We should read and study the Bible because… it is God’s word to us. When we open the Bible, we read God’s message to us. What could be more important than understanding what the Creator of the universe has to say?
We should read and study the Bible because… it is totally reliable. We have the ability to test it by checking the hundreds of detailed prophecies that it contains by checking the historical accounts it records. It’s full of wisdom too.
We should read and study the Bible because… God does not change and, because mankind’s nature does not change, it is as relevant for us as it was when it was originally written. The Bible gives us guidance through life, showing us the path to the way of life.
We should read and study the Bible because… there is so much false teaching and the Bible gives us the marker by which we can distinguish truth from error. God’s word shows us just how much God loves us and it is through learning this that we are drawn to love him in return.
We should read and study the Bible because… there are so many Bible characters to learn from which can serve as both positive and negative role models to us at different times in their lives. For example, David, in his defeat of Goliath, teaches us that God is greater than anything he asks us to face. Experience is a great teacher, but when it comes to learning from sin, it is a hard teacher. Why not read the Bible for yourself? The Bible holds excellent advice for all.
We can ignore the word of God, but we do so to our own detriment. It cannot be emphasized enough how important the Bible can be to our lives. The word of God offers hope in a hopeless world. What are you waiting for? The more we make an effort to really dig into its pages, the more reward we will gain for our effort. Open your Bible today. Be ready to learn what it teaches, not what you think or have heard that it teaches.
